Mi Oración: work in progress
I've been collecting broken skate decks around the neighborhood for a while. So far my idea is to paint on them, but we'll see what else this might turn into. I like the idea of composing graffiti on various surfaces around the city. (not necessarily walls, and most definitely not illegal spots) City, or dwelling place, as canvas goes back to early man painting on cave walls; it's one of our oldest art-forms. What I like about skate decks is that they have been all over the city and grinded/board slid over many surfaces with their previous owner. This provides a unique artifact from the street level to tell stories on.
Lately I've been working on one piece called Mi Oración. My prayer for L.A. is that death, in all of it's forms, would lose it's sting in our city.

Cinderella+Pablo Ramirez= No Longer Boring

Mr. Ramirez has such a modern style. I couldn't believe this art was published in 1965. Every page contains really fun illustrations that have the power to maintain my interest through-out a story that I've read many times. I'll only tease you with these two images that I've scanned from the book. If you wish to buy my copy you may do so here amazon.com/shops/johnt48.

I Recommend...

(This item for sale on the widget to the left)
You will notice that I have added an Amazon.com widget on the left side of this blog. The items contained within that widget have served me as great sources of inspiration and instruction as an artist. I really do recommend these books/DVDs highly. Keep in mind that I will receive a small portion of every sale made through this particular widget. Help a brother out por favor!
You might also want to check out my Amazon book store. I get a higher percentage of each sale made. Perhaps you will find a gem on my shelves.

I'll Draw Anyone For $10
Money has been tight lately, and I have a lot of bills to pay off; especially my enormous student debt. This is why I'm announcing my first ever BACK TO ART SCHOOL sale! (No, I'm not going back, but my money is) I will draw a picture of anyone for just $10. Now that's a great deal. Shoot, I'll even draw your little brother's D&D character. Click on this link to my Etsy Store to place your order. The arts are what keeps all of us sane; please support the artists who create it. Thank you!
